A Popular Fruit
The acai berry is the fruit of the acai palm which mainly grows in the swamps and floodplains of central and south America. It is a small, round dark purple fruit which grows to be about one inch in size and looks similar to a grape. The pulp surrounds one large, singular seed which makes up about 80% of the fruit. The food is harvested by the native populations of South and Central America and is an important part of their diet. It is also popular in the western world as a dietary supplement due to it’s high nutritional properties having found to be rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids and amino acids.
Superfood Not Miracle Food
While many people sing the praises of the Acai berry for it’s excellent health benefits it is well worth reading the facts about the berry before jumping into any radical diet. Marketers would have you believe that it is a miracle weight loss cure and would try and sell you a product or pill based on the recognition of the name “acai”. The truth is that the acai berry has several great nutritional benefits which can actually help your digestive health. As part of a diet product that contains other necessary factors such as fibre it could help a person to lose weight and improve their overall health. However while it is considered a super-food because it is power packed with goodness it is not going to cause a quick, miracle weight loss as some would have you believe.
